Misty Morgan by Stephen Cosgrove is a book from my childhood about a princess and a unicorn. While I don't remember this book being a part of my childhood, it has become a part of L's library and she LOVES it. It is not really age appropriate for a 3 year old but her attention to books is intense. We have read this book numerous times, met Stephen Cosgrove at The Unicorn Festival last summer, and had him sign it. All these years the book has never hit me the way it did the last time I read it.

While it is a great story with a valuable message for children, it felt more like a direct message to caregivers when I read it yesterday. The message is to take time for your friends before they're gone. As a working mama it was a stab in the heart all of a sudden. With all the tasks that need to be completed at work and home, it is hard to spend quality time with L.

This can happen to teachers as well. With all the documentation requirements that drag us down, we sometimes forget the most important thing is to connect with children.

I do recommend this book for mamas and teachers who feel caught up in everyday, never-ending tasks. The book will remind you to take time away from that and really listen to children.
