Denver Zoo

Yesterday was the best day to go to the zoo! It wasn't too hot, most schools are back in session, and there are many zoo babies to check out!
Now I know I complained about the price of admission to the Downtown Aquarium, but the Denver Zoo isn't much better. It was $17 a piece for adults! Maybe I just don't go out as much as should but that seems ridiculous to me. Unlike the aquarium, the zoo is not trying to constantly rob you of your lunch money. Sure, there are vendors everywhere, but they don't draw your attention away from the animals. We rented a wagon because it was $2 cheaper than the jeep, we quickly shelled out the extra dough so the girls (L and her 3 year old cousin) could have a more comfortable ride.
I love the Denver Zoo and recommend it to everyone! Once you are in, there are many fun things for children to do without paying more. There is a grass maze, the mat to jump across to compare your jump with animals, bongos, many nooks and crannies for small bodies, and even a shoreline play area. Of course that list is not complete and I actually see new things every time we go. We stopped in for an elephant show which was probably more entertaining for the adults than young children, but nevertheless, we were up close and personal with Groucho, the biggest elephant at the zoo!
This was L's second visit to the Denver Zoo. She was captivated by all the scenes around her and her favorite animal was the last one we observed before leaving the zoo, the mongoose! She pointed, oooed, and even waved to them.
What are your favorites at the zoo?
