"Don't take a small child to an all ages concert at Boulder's Fox Theatre!"
I listened to that advice, which is a feat! I normally listen to everyone tell me the same thing, much like the most recent Bachelorette, and I decide the opposite. I am so thankful I listened to that advice. Not only would I have worried about L's little ears, but it was past her bedtime!
What do you do when daddy plays his first show in three years, L has never heard him play, and you have the worst summer cold ever? After wavering all day, I decided at the last possible minute to send L to my brother and sister-in-law's house to play with her cousin and fall asleep. I am ever so grateful for the biggest Wild Gnomes fans!
I drove down to Boulder in the dark, made it with 10 minutes to spare before daddy hit the stage. I found a decent parking spot one block up the street. I had never been to the Fox Theatre so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was not unlike many small theaters. There was a small box office, some security checking tickets and IDs at the door, and then one giant bar. (Ok, I could be exaggerating, it may have just been a large bar.) You could walk into the main room from either side of the bar, I was astonished to see how dark it was in there with only a couple lights shining on the band on stage. L would have wanted down to run and certainly been trampled had she been there. Unfortunately I did not go backstage, but maybe it was brighter and safer for a small child.
I thought the Fox Theatre was a pretty fun place to see local, live music! After the show we walked out front and I thought I may die. Everyone was standing directly in front of the doors smoking cigarettes. I am pretty sure that is illegal in Colorado, and most certainly in Boulder, but I could not get away fast enough. Apparently I was very rude about having to walk through a smoke cloud, but seriously people, kill yourselves, not me. I long for a day when smoking cigarettes is banned in public like medical marijuana! The cloud was the biggest reason I am thankful that I left L with family.
