Moments of Awe

I have been in the early childhood education profession for just about a decade so I have seen pretty much everything. This made me question whether I would actually find joy and awe in L's new developments. I do, but maybe not in the same sense that other moms do. Here is a list of some things that have truly amazed me.
1. Chewing Food - who would have thought this would be so amazing?! Certainly not me, I've seen children eat millions of times! The first time I saw L take a bite and chew I was shocked! How did she go from closing her mouth and swallowing to figuring out how to use the six teeth she has in her tiny mouth?
2. Climbing - how did this tiny human, a mere 14 months old, learn to go vertical . . . on everything? Last weekend she was climbing a chain link fence, who taught her that?
3. Using Straws - when I introduced a cup with a straw I tried to teach her to suck and she looked at me like I was an imbecile! Of course she could use a straw without thought, I realized minutes later (okay, like 30) that she was actually born knowing how to suck!
There will be more moments of awe so stay tuned for episode #2. Tell me about your moments! Feel free to comment or contact me.
